This object of this ride was to travel from Grass Valley, California to Hope, Canada in the dirt as much as possible. Three riders from our club decided to take on this challenge, Patrick, Dennis, and Terry. It was decided to take an easterly route traveling from Grass Valley to Pyramid Lake, Nevada. From there the route turns north thru Gerlach, Nevada, to Fields, Oregon. From there the route continues north and slightly east into Idaho and up into Canada. Then to get to Hope the route turns directly west 250miles to its finish. The group alloted ten days total for the round trip. This allowed nine days on the bikes (it was estimated to take 8 days with one day spare) and one marrathon day in Patrick's truck to return. The truck would be in Hope for a family reunion his wive would be attending. As the ride would be taking place at the end of August 2005 great attention would need to be paid to proper hydration. Weather during that period had been well over 100 degrees farenheit. You well might ask why such a hot dry route. Patrick earlier had ridden from Mexico to Grass Valley on a route in the area and he wanted to complete the trifecta.
